Space between box and cab (Weave)

I noticed that Weave's truck looks as though the box sits pretty close to the cab. Where is the exhaust? I'm wandering what clearance i need between the box and cab and/or exhaust. Anyone?

I'm also wandering if you can get a 24' box on a class 8 truck that has the exhaust behind the sleeper and still be under 40'.. I realize that hood length is probably the determining factor.

Thx again for the help,

Hey Arkie -
I've got a Freightliner FLD120, 60 inch sleeper, 24 foot box with a liftgate platform on the rear and it is just under 40 feet. The FLD120 is the second longest Freightliner, the Classic being the longest. The exhaust on the bigger rigs like these is almost always a "grassburner" horizontal type. I've got about 5 inches of clearance between the rear of the sleeper and the front of the box. If I was to do it differently I would probably go with a Century class or maybe a Mack which are shorter from front bumper to rear of sleeper and then go with a larger sleeper. The 60 inch can be a bit small. Another important thing to consider is to go with a twinscrew or an extra axle. I prefer the twinscrew due to better traction on slippery ramps. With rigs this big and only one axle out back your payload capacity suffers. Hope that helps.

The exhaust on my truck is indeed horizontal. There is only about a 4" space between sleeper and box to allow for integral cab/sleeper movement. (Back of sleeper is on small air springs that move up and down.) Truck has 24' box, length on Columbia (nearly identical to Century dimensions) with 70" sleeper is about 38'5", so a 24 footer is about as long as you can go with one of these to be legal length, I don't think you would be able to safely fit a vertical exhaust behind the sleeper unless you go with a 22' box, which I have seen done. I prefer the horizontal exhaust as it doesn't leave exhaust soot on the side of the box, and no, I do not get any fumes in the cab.

Thx guys, exactly the info. I was looking for.
Now I know what I'll be dealing with if I decide to build my own class 8.

Thx again,
