My wife and I just spent 2 fantastic weeks at a resort in Myrtle Beach,SC. While walking downtown, It was a saddening experience for me to see 2 vacant lots directly accross the street from each other. The old amusement park and the pavillion are now history. I have been so used to visiting both places since the early 1950's.
Just yesterday, I was driving from Lynchburg,VA south on US29. Man, has that road ever changed. Some of you old-timers remember how the old route used to snake right through town down by Dan River and by Cindy's truck stop (also now history).
Then theres the old Bean Station truck terminal in TN. The old metal pole that once held the sign stood long after the truck stop was gone. On my last trip through there,I do'nt even recall seeing the sign pole.
And, a sign pole is all that remains to remind me of the Triple T truck stop that once stood on US1 in Wrens,GA. A Huddle House took its place.
All of these places where great food was served in a friendly atmosphere and where many fun times were had are now just fond memories. I ca'nt help but feel that a big part of me went with all of these places. The only thing left is the memories and I'll have those till my last day on earth!
