Saw it comin'

In my brief 3 month career as an expediter running a b-unit leased to a major expedite company I was netting $150 per week. That was Aug. to Nov. of '04. Yes, I did make nice money on the east coast, and I actually LOVED driving in the NYC metro area including mid-town Manhattan (2 loads). Unfortunately, many times I did not get offers for any freight until Weds. Thurs. even though I stayed in service and would pester the dispatchers. Canada was OK by me!!Been there done that!!
I called my recruiter when I was grossing less than $700 a week during the busiest times of the year--no answer. I called the contractor coordinator--never returned my calls. So, I packed it in even tho I would love to get back in it all over again. All I can say is I saw this coming, that is slow freight, cheap freight, and no freight. Too many vehicles chasing too little freight, the price of fuel, too many expedite companies, erosion of the manufacturing base, etc. Tho I lost more a little more than 4k total when I got rid of the van, I waas prepared financially for this. Right now I am driving a school bus. My sincere hope and prayer for each contractor out there is that things improve BIG TIME for each and every one of you!! This is a great site and I still love to read it!!

Sorry to hear about your luck. Hopefully some good will come out of it. This year was not the year to get into this industry. Its hard enough for the experienced o/o,s to make it let alone a new person.

Sorry to hear about your experience DooWop, had the economy and the price of gas and diesel been better you would've been making more money than you could count. Its good that you got out when you did, some people stay in the business longer than they should only to loose everything including their good credit. Its a shame to see America's once thriving manufacturing business's close or move to other countries and how its effected the whole economy. I feel for all my fellow drivers and how hard they have it. Hopefully the politicians in D.C. are working on a plan to turn things around like dropping a nuke on China so they'd stop sucking up all the extra oil and taking our jobs away.LOL
