Propane Tanks for Cooking/Heating

I know I'm asking a lot is questions lately and for that I'm sorry.

I would like to do some RV type conversions on my sleeper. Why is it no one uses the small propane tanks on their trucks like the RVs have. I know there are some tunnels where they are not allowed, but what about the rest of the time? A small RV furnace would be perfect for winter heat.

Another thing that would work for heat is one of the heat exchangers out of an older VW Bug. Those heaters worked on gasoline. That would not be any worse than carrying around gas can to run a portable generator.

Hi

Personally I feel that Espar heaters are the way to go.There compact and fuel efficent.I did the fuel saving calculations when fuel was at 1.87 and the thing was going to pay for its self in 9 months. With fuel at 2.50 it will probably pay for its self in 6 months. This is for an extended van.I consider it the best $1000.00 investment to a truck that you can make.

If you have a rv heater or can get one for say $300.00 then I'd give it a shot. The reason for the $700.00 difference is lost cargoe space. The Espar is smaller than the propane tank and is professionally secured to the truck.I gave up on propane heaters because Im afraid of one exploding inside the van in an accident.

Deisel fuel isn't explosive unless compressed.I'ved had a propane bottle leak inside the van, scared the heck out of me.I had to pull over and roll down all the windows and open back doors.Didn't light a cig for hours after that.

Safer smaller and more efficent.

Go with the Espar it is fantastic. Been using one for 2 winters now the convience , fuel savings, and wear and tear on engine makes this unit a no brainer.
