Lift Axle D unit

I may install a lift axle next year when my truck will be over 6 months old. RS Body in Ivel,KY. is offering a Page 20K rated lift axle installed with 2 tires and wheels for approx. $5000 incl. FET.
In Ft. Wayne I get a price for a Watson-Chalin 13.2K rated axle for $6500. Both co's suggest 215/75R17.5 rubber due to cheaper cost for wheels, brakes, etc and they will allow a capacity of 18000 lbs. Since I can only plate 46 GVW anyway, why not 2- 255/70R22.5 tires which will give me 11K, and a total GVW 44K? Then plate the truck for either 42 or 48 MI. (if I really want the 44) Point: I can only add 13K maximum (total 34 on rear)- or do I settle for 11K max.
Cost is a factor, as I'm not sure enough freight will make it cost-effective. If I ever want more capacity up to 46, I could always add two more tires and wheels. Anyone use the 17.5's.?? Clearance is an issue as I have only 26" from bottom of frame to ground. 255's might require cutting wheel wells into bottom of box. Thanks

This is the time to leave it to the experts! Your Truck outfitter should have the ability to recommend the proper axle for your unit. I would run, if it were me tandem tires and not singles. Also I would option for shock absorbers they will make a huge difference in the ride. Good luck
