The own-authority topic rises every now and again in the forums. It's probably something every expediter thinks about at one time or another. Would you be kind enough to share why you got your own authority and how you see it as better than running under a carrier's authority?

I have my own authority and I prefer this way because I deal directly with manufactoring companys. I can run any van I want. I now run a 1989 ford window van. The insurance is cheaper on this old of a van, currently 180.00 a month for all insurance including 50,000 dollar cargo. I also expedite differently because the companys I deal with are within a 75 mile radius of where I live. I pick up a load, deliver it, and return home. I can run as far as I want, some loads are 1000 miles one way. My van can carry 3 skids up to 4000 lbs. I dont have quallcom, just a cellphone. I dont have load acceptance rates or in service rates to deal with. I know this type of expediting is not for everyone, but it works great for me.
