UPDATE: The beginning of this project has been pushed back one week to the 4th of August. Local police departments complained that they weren't given sufficient time to prepare for the huge influx of traffic onto local roads. I am not sure whether the Westbound closures will start on the 4th as scheduled or be pushed back also.

Original post:
Effective this Friday, 28 July 2006 at 1900 EST, the express lanes of I-78 Eastbound will be SHUT DOWN for total reconstruction between mile markers 48 and 52, until December. Exit 48 is the area where the express/local split starts and ends; 52 is the Garden State Parkway (GSP).
The Westbound express lanes shut down a week later ( 4 August ), for the same amount of time. The local lanes will have an additional lane, I.E. no shoulder. I use this road daily, and it gets clogged up easily in the best of times....x(
Once the express lanes are reopened, the locals will be closed and rebuilt in 2007. Also, there will be construction in 2008 to provide a direct link from 78 to the GSP.
Alternatives? Probably the best would be to run 287 North to 80 or south to the 'pike at Exit 10; I'll have to explore these....
