The January issue of Heavy Duty Trucking has avery interesting article on truck hybrids. Freightliner is testing a Sprinter with a hybrid setup.It also includes a plug in so the batteries can be recharged at night without the engine running. F/Liner is also developing a hybrid M2 with the diesel coming in as needed.
I think these type of vehicles would be OK for short radius work but might not do well on the OTR that we all do.
In Europe D/Benz is testing buses with the fuel cell concept generating electricity to run the motors. They have the hydrogen tanks mounted on the roof,kinda scarey if something happened and the bus rolled. They also are testing 2 Sprinters using fuel cell technology.
