I'm not sure this belongs here, but thought I would throw in a some save the earth friendly news.I was stationed in the U S Navy for 15 years. When I was first in,I was stationed on a oiler replenishment ship, which refueled all the ships at sea, including aircraft carriers, which took at about 6 hours to refuel.Imagine side by side with a aircraft carrier,(3 football long)for 6 hours. During the course of my years at sea,we threw paint cans,55 gallon drums,we shot holes in them with the 50 cal and watched them sink, and whatever,a shipboard cleaning was ,and wasn't needed, pumped out the bilges, which contain oil, diesel fuel, and what have you over the side, mainly at night. It was legal as long as you were fifty miles from land.Sewage went over board as long as we were out fifty miles.Back in those days, garbage of all types,in plastic bags was ok to do.Now days you have to store all that up,while you are underway, until you get in port somewhere, with the exception of sewage.People eat tons of seafood out of the oceans that thousands of ships dump bilges, sewage tanks and what not everyday.Being at sea,one of my jobs as an engineer was to make fresh water from sea water.Of course it went through a process, but to think of all the nasty stuff floating in that water, makes you wanna say,no thanks. How's that for helping the earth? Oh,maybe that's why all they fish float on top of the water, with the help of an oil tanker going bump in the night !Makes ya wonder what you are really eating ya know?
