RANDY hi all its been awhile but i am still around, not running freight but still hang around the forum.... anyways i was wondering if you gm van owners have had this problem with your van, if so what did you find wrong, i came out about a week ago and when i started the van their was this knocking noise, it sounded like a wrist pin once it got warm it went away but their still was a small ticking noise like a lifter, i took the doghouse off and checked the wires cap rotor and thay were all bad (old) so i replaced everything but the noise is still their, not as bad but its still making noise, till its warm, i looked at the inside of the doghouse and on the inside it has some metal covering(heat shield) you could see where the sparks from the plug wires were arking on it.
anybody have this problem,,, i dont want to tear the motor apart to find out it is something on the out side of the motor,,,,,i have been working on it for a week, but i think its a wrist pin.... :(

A few years ago there was a "cold knock" issue on some GM V8s. Customers complained but as far as I know there was never a recall. My son has one in his pick-up. He's well over 100k and it has'nt caused a problem.

Hi

This going to sound goofy but hey it looks even goofier.Take a funnel and stick it into a 2 foot piece of garden hose. Then put the funnel up to your ear while running the other end of the hose along the outside of the motor. If its a wrist pin you will definatly hear it and you'll even know which ones bad. Also do an oil analyst.I will never tear apart another motor without one.Cheap but effective.
