Fleet Specialists

Well it seems like they are finally listening to IceRoadTrucker and putting a system in place to run " the sky's the limit."
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Didn't they have the same deal for the old Flat Rate Program ?

Comments ?

I'm intersted to see how well this works out. The paper said each specialist will handle about 50 units. That seems like a little much to me lot's of units to keep up with. Also i would like to know if each specialist will deal soley with each different category (tractors, straights and vans)? i hope it's beneficial for everyone.

The letter was sent to owners homes and included in the Fleet Bulletin emailed out today.
A surface driver will have a single point of contact for all load issues except payroll.
If your SE truck has Larry, Larry will be his go to guy. When Larry sees your truck just took that Fargo load Larry should start trying to find a way to get your truck out of Fargo.
Also when your truck needs a directional dispatch, say for repairs or hometime, he'll work with Larry.
Is 50 trucks too many ?
Probably not. 50 trucks means about 35 working today. Some drivers are low maint and don't need much help most weeks.
And the office people are used to a fairly heavy workload.
Overall, it should be a positive change.

It starts with T-T's ( the biggest whiners , maybe ? :) )

Then it'll move to Straights, and then into vans.

At least that's the way I interpreted the letter.

I am one of the low maintenance contractors out there. I think I went without a CC for nearly 2 years. If I had an issue I would go right to Kathy Brooks or Tim Starky. I'm more then happy to continue on that way.

If this helps me make a few extra dollars a week that's great but I don't want to be aggravated by a load specialist because i'm not running freight the way they want me to.

That being said I am looking forward to seeing how this works out. Reminds me of how I've heard Landstar is run.

And it may play out that your truck is assigned to FS-1. That will usually be Larry. Larry's day-off it may be Jenny. Weekends it may be Gary.
It will always be FS #1, regardless of who is covering that group.

Ahh. So it's not a w/ g thing. Ok. One of the owners with fedex has a big enough fleet they already had a fleet coordinator like this. When we drove for that owner we were flat rate and utilized that person after we found out who he was. It was after that point we started doing very well in a flat rate truck, making less per mile than the new plan. Hopefully this will be a very good thing for the SE division. I guess we will see with time.

There are either loads going out of an area or there are not. I think sometimes drivers expect dispatch to magically produce a load out of a tough spot. With phrases like "were working on it " or "well get you out of there".

I think drivers would do well to stay away from non productive express centers. Leave those loads to trucks that are still using training wheels.

What measures will these load specialists be taking ? More than likely looking through repeat type loads in the system ie " every Friday a load goes out from ABC in Fargo ND"

If they could offer you a load out as sort I of a package deal that would be great, at the VERY least, our carrier is being proactive in a helpful way to the driver and that's the way it should be.

If it works the way it did when we were on the old flat rate the FS should be able to keep us predispatched most of the time.
