Example of cheap freight or...?

Located at an airport near Milford, CT was this cargo plane. As you can see in the pic, a common padlock is used in place of the FAA PMA hold down clasp. Not sure if this would pass an FAA inspection but Im sure the rationale is that a $3 pad lock is a lot cheaper than a $200 clasp.

I think it would be interesting to post pics of "economic fixes" brought on by either cheap freight or frugal O/Os. We have seen some amazing and troublesome maintenance on both trucks and planes....

Looks like it serves the purpose ...considering it is a private plane..from one secure location to another...

Its a cargo contractor...just like us. He landed this way...no "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" flag.
Might be legal but this particular contractor made the National News for recent crashes linked to questional maintenance practices. Just today, we saw a major carrier's trailer with mismatched tires and a big chunck of rubber (showing metal) on the LRO. After fueling, he checked it and drove away (perhaps to get it fixed) but several miles later we caught up with him later. He was on the shoulder minus most of that tire.
