Canada CSA, FAST, CDRP... what's what

Several months ago I got an official letter from Canada saying I am approved for the CDRP. I filled out paperwork for the FAST card but it was lost along the way somewhere. A few days ago I picked up a load and drove to a transfer point. That load was CSA, at least I think those were the letters, and I was told by dispatch that requires no barcodes or paperwork of any kind. What is that and is there a reason to have CDRP or FAST if you have CSA? How do you go about applying for CSA?

There is no card called a CSA card. There is CDRP which is Canada only, and there is FAST which is good on either side. CSA is what the system for clearing automtive production into Canada is called and it does require barcodes. I don't think you can clear anything without either barcodes for CSA or invoices. Eventually the CDRP card will be eliminated and it will be FAST card only.

Thanks for the update. When I picked up the load I swapped out I was told it had to be a CSA approved driver. I haven't done any of the Canada stuff yet so I lucked out to just run it up to Michigan. Anyway, I called in and asked them about barcodes etc. because I have an envelope full of forms and barcodes. They told me nothing had to be done so I didn't have to worry about what barcode to put where etc. That was fine by me. That's what made me think maybe it was a card or something the driver could show at crossing. I'll be going back in about a month to get stickers and permits for the new truck and plan on sitting through the Canada orientation segment again.

Leo: Read the prodecures part of the guide I posted this morning:
You swipe your FAST card and that's it; you're across.
