That's terrible. If people just had a little patience they'd often do much better.

I think the key is they were following another vehicle.
This leads to poor decision making at times.

Poor O'l trucker lost everything he ever worked for, assuming he will not have a PTSD, & can keep his job.
the FMCSA will charge him AND his carrier with all bunch of severity points, his PSP reputation will be damaged forever.
the carrier will be flagged as an unsafe, and called in for more inspections,
customers will be advised by the Gov. to stay clear from doing business with them, or they will be liable for future suits.
& insurance providers will raze their rates, because that DOT# is now associated with higher risk.
And our whole trucking industry will be categorized as dangerous. one more statistic. good day for ambulance chasers. where's the NTSB when we needs them?
.
.
.Not that the driver could have done anything reasonable to prevent this accident from happening.
who is the real victim here?

Yeah, I worked at a Distribution Center for Walmart which was also a hub for WM truck drivers. One day someone in a Trans-Am tried to do the same thing the driver of the Crown Vic did and didn't make it. There was nothing left of the car. The truck looked driveable, bent bumper and some broken plastic. I saw the truck get towed in, never saw the truck driver again. Walmart ran a tight ship in their trucking fleet, so I would not be surprised in the least if he got fired for something he couldn't do anything about.

Anyone with E.M.S., Law Enforcement, or Fire Reccue experiance knows, the major suck part of this storry is, when an intersection or strech of road is a known hot zone for wrecks no matter how many times people are injured or killed, or how many citizens, E.M.S., Rescue, and Law Enforcement personell insist on basic measures like a 4 way stop, a K rail, median, reduced speed, or even a patroll car shooting laser for speeders to make it safer it dosent happen untill someone like a politician, thier friend, or family member or somone well known gets hurt or kiled. Then all of a sudden the danger comes to light and its not as much work or money to get it done.
Hopefuly the driver was legal. If he did the right thind and everything in his power to avoid the wreck all we can do is pray the best for him. This is yet annother reminder we all have the worse posiable day in our lives waiting for us.

Bob Wolf.
