Compassion means getting FEMA out of the way

Dr. Paul doesn't explain a couple things in enough detail.

In the Katrina aftermath, in addition to the firemen who were sent to Atlanta to undergo sexual harassment training while fires raged in New Orleans and elsewhere, many boaters who came to help rescue people from the flood waters were delayed by safety inspections and boating safety courses. And you can bet those inspections and courses (and the inescapable waiting around before, during, and after) could be measured in terms of hours or even days while people drowned, rather than minutes. Had anyone stopped a boater who was ready to launch to go save people (at least stopped any more than to ask, "You got flotation gear? You do? Ok, the dock's over there"), he should have been stomped into a little, greasy spot on the ground and stepped over enroute to the boat launch.

As for the guy who was assigned to run security on the cruise ship, he was initially told to rent a car and a room in one location, then he sat around for a couple days before being assigned to a post other than for that which he was qualified.

Per usual, government makes problems worse, frequently after creating the original problem in the first place.
