Cigarette lighter plug amps

Can a lighter/power plug handle 15 amps? What's the limit for the typical outlet?

Some can yes. Fastest way to find out, look in your fuse box. If the lighter fuse is 15 amps or higher you have your answer

(might be smart to check your owners manual as well If it does not have the fuse rating stamped on the fuse box it's self. someone might have put a larger fuse in the socket)

Cigarette lighter/power plug fuses are almost universally 15 amp. Some may be 20 amp. Whether the stuff you're plugging in can handle that power may be another matter, I've seen some Radio Shack power cords that you shouldn't put 8 amps on.
