BILLED MILES

HI FOLKS! JUST A QUESTION ABOUT BILLED MILES? DOES ANYONE ELSE EVER WONDER HOW COMPANIES CAN COME UP WITH MILEAGE THAT FALLS REAL SHORT OF WHAT WE CAN PUT TOGETHER WHEN PLANNING OUR ROUTES? RECENTLY I WAS PLANNING A ROUTE WHICH CAME WITHIN 2 MILES OF WHAT THE CONVERSION CHART GAVE BUT ONLY TO FIND THAT THE BILLED MILES GIVEN ME WERE OFF BY 64 MILES (NOT IN MY FAVOR EITHER). IS THIS STANDARD PRACTICE? NOT ONLY THAT BUT IT KNOCKS OFF AN HOUR OF DRIVE TIME, WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT? OR DO WE JUST BITE OUR LIP AND DEAL WITH IT???

There's an article explaining that very thing on the home page of this site. Usually nothing can be done unless there is an obvious error. They plan the shortest possible route.
