Hello all,
I'm back to update my experiences as a first time driver.
It's been about 3 months now and I'm still in love with this career. Unfortunately I haven't been on the road in 3 weeks because I failed my DOT physical. I have a history of sleep apnea, and had to do a sleep study. I didn't do too well.
I really miss being out there on the road. My wife misses the extra money. I made $1000(+) a week consistently, and I was home every 3 weeks for about 3 or 4 days which was perfect for us.
Although I was constantly harassed by DOT because of the carrier's terrible record, I still enjoyed the lifestyle.
The truck was well maintained, the sleeper was very comfortable, and the fleet owners, though aggressive about trying to get me to 'fix the logbook', are really great guys.
I also developed friendships with other drivers. One in particular who got cursed out by the psycho prostitute when he told her she couldn't get in the truck with us to play playstation 4 Lmao. Don't worry, bro, I won't say your name on here.
Yeah, I had some good times on the road. I hope I'm able to get out there again.
Since I'm home for now, I've been messing around with ride sharing apps like uber and lyft. I'm making about $600-$800 a week so far and I get to be home every night, so I guess that's not too bad. It's easy money, the hard part is pretending to be happy all the time when I get passengers lol.
Well that's my story. I don't know if I'll be able to get back on the road or not, but no matter what I'll continue to follow this forum. I've gotten some really great info from you fine folks, and even made a friend or two.
I'll be in touch.
