A good Q from Broom

In another post, Broom asked a pretty good Q. Since answering it there might have taken the thread away from the original Q, I'm making another post of it. What he asked was:

OK letz this site is all about helping others not make the same mistake.. Who is your current carrier and congratulations (SERIOUSLY) and who did you use to run for???? Don't be Shy.... (this is from Broom)

I've done expediting in 2 parts. From 94-99 & from 2004-current.

Right now I work for EGL. Advantages are local runs. I don't want to be on the road any longer. I've had enough of sitting in my van doing nothing in some other state the first time around in expediting.
Even w/ the headaches of my Sprinter, which I've mentioned in some other posts, I'd take EGL over my former company & sitting around & waiting quite a lot. I want a more balanced life than just driving. The pay is ok, but not great. The disadvantage is they want ya to have a new Sprinter to sign on w/ em. That takes the pay from "ok" to "brutal". They let me bring my Ford on w/ em. I'm guessing that's because I've already worked for em though. Cuz they wouldn't let me put it on w/ em when I started. Another disadvantage is that living 75 miles from most of their pickups means I've usually got to have at least 3 runs lined up for me to make it worth going down there to work.

Before EGL I worked for Thompson. Low end of the pay scale for sure. Advantages were they kept ya busy. When the runs were mostly from Michigan to Toronto & back, I enjoyed it. I got an apartment in Toronto & didn't have to stay in my truck very much. When the runs went from Michigan to Toronto to Wherever (meaning Kentucky, Ohio, Wisconsin or just wherever) & there'd be days I'd sit around & maybe/maybe not get a run, then it became a hassle.

Not counting the few months I've had a mega payment on my Sprinter, I don't so much care if I get a run if I'm sitting in my home. I'm not saying I never want a run. I'm saying there's other things I can do & I'm ok w/ things if they're slow. If I'm sitting in my van somewhere w/ nothing to do, dang right I wanna run. To go from Toronto to Kentucky, sit all day & then deadhead back to Michigan for $450 or whatever didn't leave a whole lot of profit. I'd rather have 2 local days where I make $100-150 each & sleep in my own bed.

Well, my entire expediting career is chronicled in the posts on this site, so I will just say I was a company driver in a van for a month. I moved up to a C unit for another month, and then bought my KW about 3 weeks ago. Al with Panther.

Panther has been good to me, I really can't complain. There's only been a few small probems here and there. They take good care of keeping my rnning legal, and even though I spend a good bit of time on hold, my questions do end up with awnsers.

Prior to expedite I:
Drove a 24' Nissan hauling christmas trees
Drove a similar KW hauling Landscape trees
Hauled farm products on a flatebed (nice w900L)
Drove Michigan Gravel Trains,

and now I'm here.
