If any of you are crazy enough to use the highway, the toll rates are going up again on January 1st.

For a van, get ready to pay 21.35 cents per kilometer that 34.46 cents per mile...plus a $3.45 video toll charge and 25 cent trip fee.

If you drive a straight truck, your rate will be 44 cents per km or a thrifty 71 cents per mile. Plus a $50 video charge and a 50 cent trip charge. Oh...an you will be charged by the police under the highway traffic act for not having a transponder (happens automatically once you get the plate charge assessed to you).

If you drive a tractor trailer and use the highway get ready to hand over $1.04 a mile plus all the other fun charges above.

If any of you live in a state that wants to sell it's toll roads to a private company....this is what happens.

Just a reminder if you are in Ontario...407 = run profit GONE!!

Happy New Year!

And yet the Indiana Toll Road was sold to the same group and is one of the cheapest tolls...If you have E-Pass..at least for a 2 axle vehicle

I used to have that transponder...when you figure in the time spent sitting on the 401 "back then" it was worth it....

I can see a few companies and o/o's cutting back on usage of the 407. I don't even have a transponder for the s/t yet. I really haven't had a call where it would have been necessary. During slow hours I've been able to reroute off the 401 to other side roads quite well and keep timing reasonable. Guess I'll just have to cut back the c/v from using it for the Hamilton runs as the cost is making it not so attractive.
