    Hino Brake Problems

Ok...that's some very helpful information. First off...no, you should never have to hand pack a cam tube. If they have shimmed up the slacks it sounds like they took the easy way out, your real problem is likely worn cam bushings. If you are going to keep the truck, replace the cams, the...

    Hino Brake Problems

Sounds like a flat spotted or seized shoe roller (pin) like Greg says. Any time something that should take grease has to be "hand packed" is a sign of two things, 1) it needs replaced or fixed, and 2) I'd be looking for a new mechanic. How exactly does one "hand pack" a slack adjuster...

    My Hino Nightmare

Did anyone ever fess up and tell you what the real problem was or are they just content that throwing 8 grand of parts at it has so far given you 800 trouble free miles and that's all they care about now.

    My Hino Nightmare

Dropped injector tip would certainly score a liner up...and make a mess of a few other things too.

    My Hino Nightmare

Dakota, I got to give you credit for putting up with this and staying cool, my professionalism would be all used up at this point and I would be coming unglued to Penske and demanding another truck or to break the lease. My Dad once used to say, the more your truck gets worked on...the worse it...

    My Hino Nightmare

New Freightliner class 5 thru 7 will only be available with Cummins or Mercedes engines. Any Ftl's with Cat's are trucks already in inventory. Internationals will only be available with International engines (the current Maxforce 7 and DT). Cat is finished with on highway engines in any region...

Winter, straight truck starting problems Hino specifically

You are correct as well, and not just Hino's. Your 99 was built for performance more than emissions....it's the other way round now for sure.

Winter, straight truck starting problems Hino specifically

Newer trucks can have lower compression ratio's to help deal with NOx emissions. Lower compression ratio's in a diesel will make it start harder in the winter.

    Freightliner, Hino, Sterling

I think it boils down to this, (for the class 7 and under crowd) Freightliner , most truck for the least money, large dealer network with many open 24hrs, parts are cheap, it's really not a bad truck, have a choice of engines International, no choice of engine (International only), they have...

    The Hino 338

The fact that there are a dis-proportionate amount of Hino's tells me a lot of people are buying them and then turning them in fairly quick. They haven't been around long enough for there to be a lot of high mile used stuff at the auction. Auction trucks can also be problem children, dealers...

    The Hino 338

Ark and Thib are both right, you can't use a truck meant for city delivery in expedite and expect it to work well for any length of time. Even the lil ole M2 has been engineered to take it (there is a severe service 112 model that uses that cab). The list of problems presented above also point...

Actually Greg, the fact that that was all you came back with makes me feel pretty good!!!!!:D

    Cummings/DD/Hino/Mercedes

When you consider an engine all you should care about is TOTAL cost of ownership. 1 Fuel economy, you won't spend more on anything else than fuel. Think that 2/10ths of a MPG isn't important over the 4 or 5 year life of the truck? If you didn't answer yes...... 2 Maintenance. How much oil does...
