    Questionable Truck Financing Ads

I haven't gotten anything like that. The ones I keep getting make me think that someone can see me in the shower and they know exactly what my shortcomings are.

And this is in the Truck Talk forum because...?? This won't keep you from doing your taxes. Just use what you have from your own records to figure what they paid you.

Business Loan Application V.S. Personal Loan Application for Sprinter Van Purchase?

Re: Business Loan Application V.S. Personal Loan Application for Sprinter Van Purchas You may want to try the new financial forum. The guy moderating it has a lot of experience in these matters.

    Dead head miles?

Depreciation is what you're looking for Xig. I wouldn't be surprised to see this reversed at some point. The mileage deduction is meant for folks that use their vehicles incidentally in their work, not as the primary earning tool.

    Per Diem for Van Drivers

I read the same thing, but my CPA said to take the full percentage. He's a "play by the rules" kind of guy, so he must have felt that we'd be O.K. with it. That's also in line with "hear say" stories I've heard on the subject.

Remember the 2010 mileage rate is less

I would say no, you can't deduct the mileage rate for a vehicle you don't own. Am I right?

???? Per Diem covers meals away from home. If you're not away from home...??

    per Diem

There is a radius, I think 100 miles, so you couldn't use the per diem once you're that close to home.

    2010 per diem

Frank, per diem is asked about quite a bit. A sticky at the top of the page might not be a bad idea. Maybe go back a few years for those that may be catching up or amending. Thanks for the advice that you've been giving us here.

    Laundry

I've always considered my per diem to cover misc things like showers and laundry. Yes, I know that it technically doesn't cover it, but it is so very much more than I spend on food that it keeps me from having to claim money for which I can't produce a receipt. Edit: Showers I have a receipt...

    Proof for Per Diem

When you say non-CDL, do you mean under 10,000 GVW? You could be non-CDL between 10k and 26k and still have to run a log. If you're going cargo van, some run a log book just for IRS purposes. I kept a journal that I record expenses in, along with locations.

    per Diem

In the per diem thread started by Teamcaffee you say that we can't use both rates. If we started on the $52 rate we have to stick with it for the entire year.

    What should I be doing

Sorry about that Moose, I misunderstood. Generally, I'm not one to scare people away from this business unless they seem like someone that wouldn't adapt and do well. I don't get into selling it much either. Right now, I just think it's better to sit back and wait for things to pick up again...

    What should I be doing

Well Moose, judging from the sarcastic tone I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're doing well right now. That's great! I have no doubt that some people are. But, if you've been reading the Forum you know that there are some that aren't. If you've kept up with the news, even a little...

    What should I be doing

I'd stay away from H&R. You may just get someone who's been shown how to put figures on a form, not an actual accountant. Get an actual accountant. It may cost more, but it'll be worth it. My friend's son went to H&R and he was just a driver, not an O/O. The H&R flunky thought that he didn't...

    car rental deduction?

Why would it be lame? Had I stayed in a motel, and away from home, there would have been per diem. I saved the government some money. And, Lord knows, they need all the help they can get!
