    Insurance rates

LDB, I don't remember who you were driving for, but most likely you were not paying for Primary Liability or cargo insurance. Your company was paying for those two, and primary liability is the expensive one. Someone not leased to a company will have to pay for all of it themselves, that is...

Do most companies have their drivers bid against each other?

The problem is that he has a passenger van and most if not all of the top carriers will not take a passenger van. Not to mention that most don't accept vans period at this time. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

    Box truck or Hotshot?

Since you will be using logs and weigh stations with either, I believe you will be better off in a box truck. I assume you are considering a box truck with sleeper. I'm in a box truck and I would never consider a hotshot. I talked to a few hotshot drivers out there and I prefer my sleeper with...

    Reefer Question

Watch out for the width of the box. Because of the insulation on the walls at least some of the boxes are not 8 ft wide inside. In that case you will be limited by the inability of sticking in regular pallets side by side. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

    HOS Question

Over 1000lbs. So 1001 or more lbs of most hazmat need to be placarded. There are some materials that need placarded no matter the quantity, but these are usually inhalation hazard and they don't go in a cargo van. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

SOLO Straight truck make any money?

Wow, 30%? I remember when 40%/60% was the norm with 60% going to the party paying for fuel. I'm a solo straight truck driver and I believe I'm doing pretty good, but I get paid 100%. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

Cargo Van Owner Operators - Broker

I've done the van thing for 11 years and made very good money. Then everybody and their brothers decided to buy a van and go get rich. I've seen the rates over the years creeping down and the amount of van loads going down also. I loved freedom and what not, but the time spent on the road...

Tire inflation on 3 axle straight trucks

Mine came with a quick connection on the frame and I just bought an air hose and hook up to it. You can buy fittings and quick connections and put them on the air tank directly, just take out one of the plugs that is not used. That is what my dad did. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

Canada Former hourly driver going O/O

Grumpy, Sprinters are a special breed of vehicles. Some love them and some hate them. I personally love them. I have a 2004 that I expedited with for 800k miles without any major issues. Still runs today but it only does trash runs once a month or so. I liked this van a lot that when I needed a...

    Married couple and a child?

Another thing to think about. Even if you would find a company that allowed it, would it be in the best interest of the child? I have 4 young children and I would not subject them to the lifestyle out here on the road. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

    Our Time is Now

Good for you. I would have done the same thing. Well, if I would find a decent job locally, even if I was taking a pay cut compared to what I am making now I would hang up the keys. Sent from my VS995 using Tapatalk

Getting a FAST card is not that easy. You apply, pay the money, wait forever, then you get a letter to schedule an interview at one of their locations (one of the border towns.) Then they mail you the card. Took months to get mine.

I may get hate for questions/comment but wtf

Were you thinking about settling in driving someone else's straight truck for the rest of your life? Or just a stepping stone to see if you like the expediting side of trucking? It might be required to take a pay cut for a few months and then if you like it, buy your own truck and make the big...
