    Looking for Advice

It's mostly recommended to drive for a fleet owner for a year or so before buying your own truck . Most contracts will give you 60% of the gross . You buy the fuel and get 100% of the FSC .

She'd like to see the country and she does enjoy driving .She is taking a look at the return in investment for fleet owners . We wouldn't be doing it to make maximum income as compared with other careers . Still , when dry van pays 50% more .....Rates drop, continue year-end slide | Overdrive...

    $1.20 a mile ?

This is what I was thinking but pick up some of those free recruiting ads at travel centers and you'll see several ads stating $1.20 a mile on straight trucks . Not very impressive . I also suspect that the "urgent need for teams " isn't due to increased freight but like truckload OTR is due to...

    $1.20 a mile ?

Yes , it's $1.20 plus FSC plus $.05 for teams and another $.05 for hazmat miles according to the Panther recruiter who also quoted the 2500 team miles . My wife is in her last semester of college before earning her Bachelor's Degree in business administration . She doesn't have her CDL yet and...

I'm not new here but my wife and I are considering making the move to expediting but are wondering about a few things . Several carrier ads say $1.20 a mile for straight trucks . I haven't been keeping up with rates but how long has this been going on ? That sounds like a good OTR truckload...

    Companies offering CDL A training

That's nonsense about the insurance companies but here's an example of the "training " I mentioned earlier . Man killed in semi tractor-trailer wreck | Laramie Boomerang | Laramie, Wyoming . Google trucker forums . Ignore my advise if you want but over and over it was said by trainers and others...

    Companies offering CDL A training

Good companies don't hire trainees . They a stack of experienced applicants . The ones hiring trainees have a turnover rate of over 100% . If you don't complete your year obligation you will be billed $2,000 - $3,000 for the training . Your best intentions mean nothing . They fire trainees for...

    Sleep apnea test????

Sounds like Panther needs to find a new doctor . I suspect this one gets kickbacks from testing facilities .

    Sleep apnea test????

The problem is Panther's physician recommended him for testing and gave him a 3 month card . This is going to be a real issue when medical records start being sent electronically to the DMV . No more trying with another physician if you don't pass with a first one .

2+ years driving on Automatic Tractor Trailers

You need to take the time to go back and read old posts because all of your questions have been answered several times . Cargo vans do not require logging unless hauling hazmat and few do . BUT , since logging isn't required you may be asked to run harder than HOS would allow . Some fleet...

To Hino or Not To Hino?

Hinos are good trucks for what they were designed for but they were not designed for OTR driving . The main things they lack are comfort and power.

    Which truck/van is best

The best truck is one that is owned by a fleet owner . If things don't work out for you the losses are minimal . Teaming with an experienced driver will improve your chances of success if you eventually buy your own truck .

Experienced courier, but green at expediting.

WAS is right . It was a lot more . Then the economy hit the skids and carriers went to charging ltl rates to keep trucks moving .

CDL required for <10K GVW Van?

Actually , there is no airbrake endorsement . If you get a CDL on a vehicle over 26,00 lbs. without airbrakes (hotshotters with dually pickups and a trailer over 16,000 lbs. GVWR are the most common example ) you are given a CDL with a nonairbrake only restriction .

CDL required for <10K GVW Van?

Wrong info . With the exception of hazmat a CDL isn't required on vehicles under 26,001 lbs. GVWR . A DOT medical card is required for GVWR over 10,000 lbs. . State inspectors love targeting 1 ton pickups . As soon as they hook up to any type trailer they exceed 10,000 lbs. GWVR and require a...

Thinking about getting in to Expediting

Some excellent points were made in Turtle's post . Freight will pick up sooner on the rail because carriers are moving more and more to intermodal . Here's another option to consider in a field there is not a surplus of workers . More and more freight will also be moving by barge on inland...
