    Newbie with a dumb question

It It shorter. Depending on setup, it could have a very LONG wheelbase and in some situations may be a bit tricker to get in spots, no bending, LOL. Also watch the tail swing, could be many feet behind the drives pivot point, otherwise all the rest is pretty similar including large blind spots.

    Help with Winter Driving...

Well, I don't disagree that water freezes :) I would hope a van isn't seeing temperatures below freezing inside while being operated sans paying cargo. 120 gallons of water is about 1000 pounds. I like to think outside the box, you could have a van with with running water when you dump it :) TS

    Help with Winter Driving...

How about some sort of collapsible bladder tank, add a few hundred pounds of water and then dump it when loaded, just a thought so you don't diminish load capacity when you need it.

    Meritor transmission problems

I have a PDF titled "Maintenance and Diagnostics Manual MM-0150 ZF-FreedomLine Transmission". If you want this manual, shoot me a PM with your e-mail and I will send you link to the download from my DropBox, it is about 6Mb so probably will choke most e-mail clients.

    request an automatic?

Pre 1986 there was no such thing as a CDL in the USA, in Oregon pre 1986 all that was needed legally to drive a CMV was what Oregon called a Chauffeurs License, no drive test, as I recall only an additional written test. The standards likely varied from state to state and there was no minimum...

    request an automatic?

Easiest way is find a school that has a class B and offers the test in that vehicle, for me it was a bus, so got passenger endorsement at same time. It was a few hours deal, show up at appointment time, learn the bus, practice a bit in the yard, take it on the road and practice the route the...

    Meritor transmission problems

ZF builds decent stuff, although there does seem to be more electrical/sensor issues with these than there should be, the real issue with this gearbox as has been alluded to, no shops really know much about it, this is mostly due to limited years in the USA and then ZF leaving the US market...

    Meritor transmission problems

The truck I drove until earlier this year had the same gearbox and got the SM once in a while, as Phil pointed out it seemed related to moisture and always seemed to heal itself, a bad sensor does make a lot of sense. TS

    CDL Medical Experience December 2015

Went in for my medical today, passed, BUT I can tell you that the rules are tightening significantly, the hearing test is more sophisticated, they took neck measurements and waist measurements along with the usual weight, etc. and the agility test will likely fail anyone seriously overweight. I...

    Garmin Nuvi

I have two Gamin units, one just a run of the mill Nuvi and a Dezl for CMV, if you are running any vehicle that requires CDL, scaling, etc., then a unit made for that usage would be the better choice IMO. I think Garmin has worked most of the bugs out of the Dezl, there were moments when I...
