    Deep thoughts

There is a product out that is offered as an option to a pee bottle . Several months back I mentioned it in a thread , partly in jest . The responses were lively and somehow the product manufacturer ended up reading the thread - and became a sponsor at the site . So you never know how productive...

    Weirdest DOT story???

Just curious , were you in the sleeper when she crossed the scales and did he also check your log book ? Whenever I'm inspected they have me change my duty status right there - except 1 time in one of those temporary stops in TN . I got back in my truck and started to update my logs and he told...

Big Sleepers and 34 Hour Restarts

The FMCSA regulations do not state you must get a motel or stay anywhere or even get any rest to log off duty. You must simply be relieved of duty .

    Flatbeds

Most of the flatbed freight is handled by hotshotters . The hotshotters making reasonable income have their own authority and equipment and usually at least 1 base customer shipping from close to their home .

    Logging

See question 18 WasteWatcher . It states intervals under 15 minutes may be flagged on the same "on duty" or "driving" line . It does not mention sleeper berth and the time duration and location of flagged incident must be recorded . 5 minutes out of the sleeper interrupts the break .

    Solo??

Check the archives . It has been stated many times a van cannot produce adequate revenue split with an owner and driver . Check the van mileage rate , figure what your share would be , and the hours you put in to earn that amount .

    Van choice

You might also make engine availability a factor in your decision . If you want a diesel , Ford is not going to put the new 6.4 diesel in any E-series . They will use the 6.0 until the supply runs out . The 6.0 has been very problematic and caused Ford to repurchase many vehicles under the lemon...

    Canada, Interesting?!?

Interesting , but how many Muslims are there in Canada ? In India only 13% of the religion are Islamic . Hindus and Buddhists don't practice polygamy . Many trucking publications in Canada have Hindi pages and attornies advertise they speak Hindi . I don't think there is much chance of Islamic...

    Hopefully this is Jr.'s year

I think Hendrick will get them to work together to make sure at least a couple of them get in the chase . I think they'll work together in the regular season but once it gets to the chase you know Johnson for sure won't see any help from Junior or Gordon . Do you think JR will help Gordon close...

    Hopefully this is Jr.'s year

Not to take anything away from Junior but he got a lot of help from his teammates . I don't see Gordon giving anybody much help in the regular cup series . He's going to be hungry for a championship . It'll get interesting toward the end of the season .

    Ohio CDL Question

That isn't necessarily true . A company could accept a medical card that is valid but I believe they do have to have a drug test done .

    Canada Clearance?

O.K. here's another debatable issue . According to FMCSA there is no off duty in a truck . See On Duty definitions . FMCSA - Regulation: 395.2 . But I have seen guidelines by the FMCSA that say an unladen truck may be driven a reasonable distance off duty to access food or lodging . What's...

    Canada Clearance?

Time logged in the sleeper berth must be at least 8 consecutive hours or it will be considered on the 14 hour clock . The Revised HOS Regulations, 2005 - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration . If you are in the sleeper for 6 hours , arrive at the border and come out of the sleeper you...

    almost time for nascar

And look who's driving the pace car RACING MILESTONES » America's Race Fan Magazine: Junior Johnson's Midnight Moon to Sponsor Jeremy Mayfield in the Daytona 500 . Now I'm sure I read somewhere last year NASCAR would like to disassociate itself from the moonshiners' connection and have a...

    Team: 5 on/5 off rotate

One big problem with the new HOS is border crossings . The person in the bunk must come out . Technically that interrupts their sleeper time and makes it count on the clock if it was been less than 8 hours . I recently read an article regarding this in a Canadian trucking magazine . They...

    Canada Clearance?

I go into Canada every week . The only headache I have is if the broker (Livingston) fails to process the PARS before I reach the border . I usually fax it in from the shipper 6 hours from the border . Usually I call in 3 hours and am told it's clear . I ALWAYS go to the border even if it hasn't...

Using Freight Brokers and UShip for back loads.

I'd avoid UShip like the plague . Shippers shop around for cheapest rates , jerk you around , commit , then cancel when somebody contacts them with a lower rate .

    speed traps

Be very careful in construction zones . I've seen construction zones in KY that are 10 miles long . They may be only doing work on the first few miles for several months but if you go over 55 m.p.h. before you reach the "End Construction" and "End Double Fine" signs you are risking a ticket ...

Look, a tornado...now what do we do?

You should have a NOAA weather radio and seek some type of shelter if a tornado nears . A truck will not protect you . They had a tornado in GA several years back and the owner of a produce company was killed when the tornado tossed the straight truck he was driving .

    Canada CLamp Down On Trucks

Washing my truck before going to Ontario and running through the snow is a lost cause . If they can in fact crackdown on those tailgaters they have my approval .
