I agree but I think unless you had an excessive deadhead a contract customers rate is going to be sufficient to move the truck at contracted rate without a loss.

But how motivated is the carrier going to be to move a truck at a loss? They will more than likely let a truck sit till they can reduce the loss or break even. Financially the sitting truck is better than a loss to them.

The problem with murder-suicide scenarios like this is the --------- start at the wrong end of the equation.

Is it just me or does it seem like many carriers who advertise such high rates per mile are the same carriers with the highest turnover?

Personally I like percentage. You have shared pain and share gain. But the when the carrier does better for the truck they generally are doing better for themselves. It helps align common goals and in my opinion that helps to build a winning team.
