Over the years, Clint learned to deliver the emotional wallop.

    Your Company Doesn't Care

My point is the exorbitant fees charged by many carriers for work done in the QC shops. It is a profit center for carriers with a high turnover rate And that would be most of them. FECC may be an exception.

    Valkyrie

Has anyone here seen this movie yet? As a WWII history buff, I am anxious to go.

    Obama Snubs Nation's Heros

BTW, the veterans' stature isn't elevated by Obama's presence. It's quite the opposite.

    Your Company Doesn't Care

Whatever charges your carrier incurs for holding orientation is richly recovered in the QC shop. ( install/de-install fees for both QC and signage). Not to mention ongoing weekly charges. Weep not for the carrier.

    Obama Snubs Nation's Heros

The ballplayers can yet emerge triumphant. Call a nationally televised news conference to dis-invite Obama from future functions. Do it every year until he leaves office. Do we really want the man there if his heart isn't in it?

    Robert Duvall

"Slingblade" was one of the most disturbing movies I ever saw. I thought Dwight Yoakim acquitted himself well. He and I share the distinction of having been born in Pikeville,KY. His family got out of the coalfields early. Mine did not. Deep, deep in central Appalachia where sunlight must...

    Conscientious Objector

The allusion to "Sgt. York" was a good one. York, played by Gary Cooper, struggled mightily with his moral/religious convictions against war. Ultimately, he chose to fight. I am reminded that a fellow Kentuckian, Mohammed Ali( then known as Cassius Clay) took a convenient religious...

Sinise is outstanding. He will eclipse most, if not all, of his contemporaries.

    personal side

OVM... very tough news to hear. In 1984, my wife and I suffered a similar loss with her first pregnancy. The emotions are indescribale. The obstetrician said wait 90 days and try again. We did. Three tremendous bundles of joy followed. All perfectly healthy. I tell you this so your...

    Robert Duvall

For me, Robert Duvall brings such a mesmerizing authenticity to every role he plays. "Apocalypse Now"... "The Godfather"... "Lonesome Dove"... "Open Range" Amongst the younger set, I like Edward G. Norton, Matt Damon, Kevin Costner, Reese Witherspoon. Russell Crowe shows alot of promise.

    The way it SHOULD be.

I like to think the legal profession's loss is the trucking industry's gain. Anyways, I generally pass myself off as the banjo boy from the movie "Deliverance." My wife thinks it's a hoot.

    The way it SHOULD be.

Layoutshooter, I actually attended law school (Salmon P. Chase College of Law). Am I going to need a kevlar jacket? BTW, my classmates were indeed a snotty, contemptible lot for the most part.

Poll: Pay per mile, or percentage pay?

I agree with both Daves. You must get a copy of the freight charges when running on percentage pay. A copy of the ORIGINAL bill. Then compare it to the copy given to the party actually paying the shipping charges. Too much mischief can take place with billing if not verified. Being paid a...

    Robert Duvall

All fine actors. That Rod Steiger is/was a doozy. Very intense. As is Samuel L. Jackson. On the small screen, I am very partial to James Gandolfini. Don't you just know Tony Soprano could clean up this mess in expediting. Try cutting his rate.

    Rate Cuts

The Law of Diminishing Returns is having its day. I wonder if we'll see a corresponding rate cut for QC's, insurance, escrow demands, etc? Or are owner/ops gonna carry this load alone?

    The party's over

Obama's not going to tick off the twentysomethings. They are his core constituency. Besides, how would Obama enforce compulsory service? Many, if not most, youngsters would simply refuse to go.
