    UPDATE to OTR warning

Truly sorry you had a bad experience with this shop! Do you know of a good shop to recommend in that area? We have all had bad experiences at on time or another. You are not alone! I remember 10 years ago when the fuel blend changed right before winter. I was at the fuel island pumping slush...

    Con-Way is a joke

Sorry to hear about your lack of loads, and low mileage. Have you talked to there coordinators for dispatch? You might even want to contact the President for a chat. It's expensive to keep jumping carriers. Are you in service most of the time and available for dispatch? Has your equipment caused...

    operating authority

Dave is correct, you do need your own authority. You will be giving your potential customers tariff rates and you will need to support your tarrifs with proof of insurance and operating authority. Better do a little more checking. Your overhead beffore you open the doors to transporting your...

Canada Canadian drivers - driving for US companies

I'm not sure if this company is still doing a steady run from Janesville Wi. to just northeast of Toronto, On., with multiple pickups on the way. The company is Thompson Expediting. I've talked to a few of there contractors over the past several years, and they where running hard then. Might be...

    Adding sleeper to truck

In the early years of expediting using a portion of the freight box was often incorporated as the sleeper compartment. With the advent of most carriers transporting hazardous materials has eliminated the sleeper in the freight box. They have to be separate compartments. So if you want to stretch...

    TIRE WEAR

The problem you're having is not uncommon on long wheelbase trucks. The driver that recommended having the axle bent is exactly correct. Try to have the vehicle full of fuel and your truck equipment you would have onboard on the truck the day of alignment. There are many good alignment shops and...

    Centramatic Balancing Rings

Yes, I've used them, and had good results! One of the truck items that actually does what it says it will do! I had on my last truck the balancers filled with liquid also. They worked equally as well. Good luck, and happy motoring without anymore vibrations!

    Spicer Transmission Replacement?

Eaton auto shift is expensive and not very durable. Rebuilt Spicers are plentiful and relatively cheap. Check the vin number with the dealer, freightliner, kenworth, etc. for the history on the trans. You might have a good one there or one that has just been gone thru. If you drive the trans...

    missouri employment

I agree, this is not a go home type of job! Three weeks out is reasonable with every company. If you get near the house, take a day off and make yourself available for dispatch. Weekends are another area that too many operators think they can go home for! Not the case in expediting! Sounds like...

    Hot Shotting

Those were truly the good old days! Remeber when you would see a 60 inch sleeper on the middle of a one ton truck? That was pretty cool! I'm kinda dating myself now, because that was 25 years ago! Boy does time fly when your having fun. Truthfully I know Dan's Trailer Sales has a list of all the...

    HOS Rules

With a commercial speed limit of 50 mph..we would all need a break after 4 1/2 hours of driving! Can you imagine if the speed limit in Georgia were 50 mph, and they inforced it! It would be a different world!

    Log Books and Fuel Reciepts

All credit card purchases are time stamped as well. Cash purchases on hand written receipts is the only way to avoid tracking....as far as I know. Remember this is my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

    Log Books and Fuel Reciepts

Speaking from a legal standpoint. Your log better match your fuel purchase. In the event of an accident, especially with a fatality, all information available to prosecute will be obtained, period. This includes toll receipts, fuel purchases, qualcomm information, etc. Beware, due it legal or...

    Race Car Hauler Conversion

Sounds good to me! The one question will be is the freight area completely separated from the sleeper? Thats the law..Haz-mat..and most carriers that I know of are very strict on this.

    Which companies allow Super-B Vans..

I don't know! But keep us posted who does. Sounds like a great idea, with a piece of equipment that won't be a throw away like some of the other equipment has become!

    Straight truck v. Tractor

You will do very well with either choice! I couldn't believe how much we enjoyed the straight truck after over 25 years in tractor trailers! The chance to park where you want and eat at real restaurants without getting thrown out of there parking lots is great! Go shopping, go to the beach, etc...
