    So...you gotta a big mouth?

Oh, I agree that one should carefully weigh all of information and then make a decision based upon what is profitable; not only in the immediate, but also where you find yourself after delivery. I am sitting in Beaufort, SC today. Drinking coffee and walking along the shoreline. It had better...

    So...you gotta a big mouth?

Smart Money by Aleksandra Todorova Wednesday, February 13, 2008 Whether chatting with co-workers or watching the evening news, the looming "recession" seems an impossible topic to avoid. With such talk comes a heightened sense of anxiety: Just how safe is my job? No matter what field you work...

    A wave of new Expediters?

Actually, they new automotive facilites are paying the workers an hourly wage that is relevant to their level of skill. There is no way someboby standing on an assembly line who puts a few screws into a door panel is worth $20.00/hr plus benefits. The confusion between "Skilled"...

    I am p**sed off, literally!!!or maybe litterally!!!

OK, so I walk into the men's restroom and I see a guy holding a urinal under the faucet. Hmmm. Is he just getting a little water to wash out the urinal, or did he just dump it down the sink? Yikes! Even getting water from the faucet is risky because of the potential for backsplash. Yuck. Now I...

    Iv'e had it

Me too! I've had it with this cold weather. The salt spray is murder on my truck. It stays clean when it is in the driveway. And all that driving at night. What's that all about? How do these shippers think I can enjoy God's beautiful creation driving down the superslabs at night. Yep...

    Vans!

It may even be more difficult in a van! From the drivers I have spoken with recently, the average is running about $1100/wk. A straight truck will potentially have a greater number of load offers. You might want to spend a little time at a truck stop talking with a few van owners before...

    Hmmm just how random

If you notify the Compliance Department of any delay outside of your control it can be documented. I got to the clinic in plenty of time, but the wait was ridiculous! As it got close to the two hour time frame, I called in and explained the situation. I was told that it would be documented...

    Liftgate question.

The liftgate would be more likely used in a "White Glove" or "Elite" service as those that are offered by FedEx or Panther. In my opinion it would see very little service at Tri-State; therefore, it would not be worth the additional cost, weight and maintenance.

    Van choice

Yes, the Duramax is a good engine. Just keep in mind that it adds 700lbs of additional weight to the chassis. When considering the Aerocell SRW with a Duramax, full fuel tanks, a bunk, personal items and the driver, the cargo carrying capacity will be markedly diminished.

    Hmmm just how random

As a team, I guess it would seem logical to test both when either driver's number was randomly selected. I am not sure about how each carrier conducts the random selection, but from a legal perspective it is my understanding that the carrier could be subject to fines, or loss of licensure to...

    Van choice

Ditto with Terry's input. One consideration with the cube van will be how the chassis and cargo box are configured. Some will have a pass through area from the driver's area into the cargo box and others will not. The reason many of these units were built without the pass through areas...

Express 1 purchase air frieght company???

Agreed. Those straight truck drivers who entered the business over the past couple of years are really taking a beating. Fuel prices increased over $1.00 per gallon; tires, oil, and repair costs all increased; additionally, those factors coupled with a huge monthly payment on a new truck have...

    I am p**sed off, literally!!!or maybe litterally!!!

Here's one for you Jack. I am fueling the van at the Flying J in Oak Grove, KY near Hopkinsville. It was about 9 am on a sunny morning. While trying to be aware of my surroundings, I notice an older man fueling his conversion version on the adjacent side of the fuel island. He walks to the...

Express 1 purchase air frieght company???

"...therefore being competitive, we can bid on more trips with the likely hood of winning them." Wow, you must be contracted to a very different type of carrier if they let you bid on freight. Incidently, you also have another advantage being a team, because anyone who has been expediting...

Express 1 purchase air frieght company???

OVM, Yes, it may change weekly, but every load during that week runs at the same rate. The O/O's I have spoken with tell me that it does not change weekly either. My point is that the carrier does not quote the rate and say to the shipper, "Oh, our FSC is only paying 15 cpm for Sprinter vans...

    I am p**sed off, literally!!!or maybe litterally!!!

I have yet to ever meet the first person who was currently employed in the transportation industry ever tell me they had a Safety Director speak to them regarding an 800 "How's My Driving" complaint. Conversely, I have had of "unemployed" drivers telling such stories, but I heard them via their...

    Havard Man - So What?

I have said many times that McCain was never my choice either. Moreover, when I was young, and unlearned, I voted Democrat from 1968 until Clinton's second bid for office. I was just a rebellious punk riding the wave of an antiestablishment mindset. You know, like SDS (Students for a...

Express 1 purchase air frieght company???

I believe that Express 1 also only pays a flat-rate fixed FSC. Moreover, that rate is only on the loaded miles. Considering the fluctuating prices of fuel it would only seem prudent for any company to compensate an O/O with a FSC based upon the weekly government averages as they would apply to...

    I am p**sed off, literally!!!or maybe litterally!!!

Yeah. What Leo said..... So how would you protect others on the road, and yourself, if you see a driver who is comitting an act of "Road Rage"? Maybe I should race ahead of him, jump out of my truck and signal him to stop so I can have a face-to-face discussion with him. Uh, not...
