Changing to cargo van, have questions

According to federal regulations a van driver does not need a medical card or a cdl unless they are hauling hazmat or transporting 16 or more passengers including the driver.

    2 solo drivers one Van

Not for me. Expediting for me is A to B and back to A every time. So yes it can be done if you really want to do it that way.

Who is making ends meet at 70 cpm?

Panther. It is their new van rate.

    more info on bolt

Might have got one of those phone calls explaining how it would be in his best interest to delete the post. The no explanation part is baffling as there is usually a slobbering apology post to the carrier from the poster. You know, the one where the poster says that even thou 15% is really...

Bolt express is a freaking joke...ruining our business

And what is wrong with that? It is perfectly legal to operate a van 10,000# and under without any markings as long as you are not hauling hasmat or passengers.

    changing carriers

Yes it is. I changed from being leased to having my own authority and it is the best move I ever made. The grass is very green when you become a carrier.

    more info on bolt

That is more than a tad steep but it is just one way for a small company to prop up there bottom line off of the backs of the O/Os working for them.

    Heat & bonding

To operate a van, 10000 lbs. and under, on your own you need operating authority, 300,000 dollar insurance policy and 5,000 dollar cargo insurance policy. A van 10,000 lbs. and under requires no markings or numbers at all according to the feds. As far as heating I use a mister buddy heater and...

    Needing some advice

I drive a van and do not have a cdl. The way I see it is that I could not charge a higher rate just because I had a cdl so why bother to waste the time or money getting one.

I see what you are saying now and I did read it wrong. I was under the impression that you actually had some customers but see now that you get all your loads from the boards. I am a one van operation that works directly with shippers and it works great for me. You may want to try building a...

Just how does your FSC work? Seeing that you should be charging a FSC on every load you get and pass that on to the drivers why would you quit paying a FSC? The way I read this is you maintained your profitably by keeping the FSC that rightfully should have went to the drivers. Is this true?

I will. $1 per mile for straights and .65 cents per mile is a joke. It is companies like these that are going to keep the rates low by their constant lowballing.

    POLL: Exit The Industry

That partnership thing is just company hype to make you feel important. In reality your just a tool the company uses to service their customers. As far as hiring too many the company is doing what it feels is best for them, if a few O/Os fail there is a lot more to take their place.

I hope it is more than 65 cpm because that is a joke. Of course 77 cpm is a joke too but not quite as funny as 65cpm.

A Dumb Questions on License Plates

It depends on the state you live in. In Pa. it would be a standard truck plate for a cargo van or sprinter or a car plate for a passenger van or passenger sprinter.

    factoring

I use a local company which charges a straight 5%. I checked some other companies that were between 2 and 8%, depending on the amount you factor, but I never seen any as high as 15 to 25%.

    A discussion from a new EO member….

Do you? Who has their name on the side of your sprinter, you or E1? Who does the shipper call when a load needs moved, you or E1? Who tells the shipper how much it is gonna cost to have the load moved, you or E1?

OK, What is the real truth?

Probably going to add more trucks to their fleets in anticipation of the increased freight.

    Panthers new rate

Just read elsewhere that panther lowered their straight truck rate from 1.20 per mile to 1.10 per mile. Any truth to this?
