Starting new as an o/o

We are looking at starting new in 5-6 months as an o/o. We used to drive for Panther and basically know exactly how they work. One of the questions is--the split log that Panther utilizes sometimes can work in your favor--other times against you-- if you are teams--lets face it eventually everyone gets tired and needs some downtime. Do you o/o out there ever put yourself out of service without worrying about it? I understand that everyone's financial situation varies, but also everyone gets burnout. Also is there really a big advantage to being hazmat certfied and having goverment clearance as far as getting loads? Do we really need to go to Canada?

Legal split logs are basically worthless now. Our brilliant rule makers took the too short 2 hour split for clock extending and increased it to a useless for driving 8 hours. Had they any brains at all they'd have put the split at 5 hours. That would allow a team to run 5/5 legally which is the only really viable and sensible alternative for a team other than running 10 hours to give the other driver a full DOT break.

You've been sitting 24-36 hours and finally a job comes up. It's a hazmat load. Or it's a government load. Or it's a Canada load. Or it's a plain jane general freight load. You can decide if there's any advantage to being able to do 50%, 75% or 100% of those or if being nothing more than general freight is just as good and sticking with 25%.
