Hey guys. My 2004Sprinter went into limp mode while on the way up to Tulsa from Dallas. Can anyone recommend a reliable tech shop in Tulsa? Thanks!

There's the Freighliner dealer, of course.

First call I'd make is to Automotive Specialists of Broken Arrow, since I know they work on Sprinters. 918-251-1067

Another one to call is VAP Auto Shop at (918) 398-6670. I've never had anything fixed there, but I delivered there once. They're a large shop that specializes in Mercedes and European vehicles, but they work on most everything.

Failing that, I'd give Silverstar Transmission in Edmund (OK City) a call at 405-330-9300 and ask them for a recommendation. They'll know.

I have an 06 that did the same thing but still had first gear and nothing else would not let me manual shift either, ended up needing he soleniod pack and circuit board inside transmission 600.00 later with trans service and it was done.

I tried to contact a business called Tulsa Sprinter Repair this morning and again early afternoon. Got voicemail both times and they didn't return my calls. I actually ended up at VAP Auto Shop. Nice group of folks. I was chatting with the tech as he was getting ready to scan and I noticed that the big hose the radiator going into engine below the EGR valve was oily. It struck me as odd as I had wiped it clean this morning to check for holes and such. The tech was standing at the side of the vehicle and I was in front of the vehicle, and I said I wonder if I've got a pin hole leak or something. He laughed and pointed at the hose...lo and behold there was a two inch split in the hose that I couldn't see from the front of the vehicle. Eureka I says. They couldn't get the part til morning and he said Freightliner will probably have it (but don't tell the boss I said that). They didn't charge me a thing. So I went to Freightliner and got the whole assembly which, as you know, has two hoses on it but that's the way it is sold. I wanted to get back in service, so for some reason, I just put a bunch of duct tape over the split instead of just changing the hose, which, as it turns out would have been faster. Took it out for a test and it drove great for a few miles, and went into limp again. So I changed the hose and am waiting until traffic clears to test drive it again. If it goes into limp again, I'll call Automotive Specialists and Silverstar in the morning. Reference: New fuel filter about 10,000 miles ago, new injectors about 5,000 miles ago, installed new air filter before I took it to VAP. Replaced resonator about 75,000 miles ago. Losing boost somewhere. I'll update you guys.

Sounds like that hose is split. It can split and you won't feel it, because at zero pressure it closes up, but under pressure it'll leak. Oil is one of the signs that it's split.

Hose was definitely split.

Ok......Ended up at Freightliner in Tulsa yesterday. Got a tech there named Bill; in about a 30 seconds he found large split in the underside of the air charger hose below the water tank at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side. Ordered part and he's replacing that hose and the bottom part of the large charger hose on the driver side. I replaced the top part yesterday because it had a split in it too. To replace the whole hose assembly on the driver side, the grill and headlight have to be removed to access the bottom of the hose. Both hoses can be DIY if so inclined. This should take care of the problem. What I've learned with five years in the Sprinter: I've experienced serious extended limp mode four times; first time a dealer in Hattiesburg Mississippi said it was the turbocharger which was replaced. After they replaced the turbo they came to me and said that the EGR needed to be replaced too. I believe from that experience that the problem was the EGR and not the turbo. My mistake was, since I had only had the Sprinter for 2-3 months my only "awareness" was that I had lost boost and that was provided by the turbocharger, so when I went into dealership I told them the turbocharger went out. They were of course happy to replace it for me. Lesson learned.

Second time the EGR valve clearly went out. One thing that may happen when the EGR goes is coolant loss from the
EGR, which is what happened to me. I thought the vehicle was falling completely apart. Third time it was the Turbo Resonator. And this time it was splits in the hoses (will know in for sure in about an hour).

Recommend that anyone with a diesel engine check the air hoses regularly to help prevent the same problems. Thanks guys.
