A lot of times those "virus alerts" from reliable sources are simply tracking cookies.

Just got 3 viruses from this one. Be careful!

Not sure about viruses. I did have to fight some drive-by downloads last night, they seem to originate from ad servers and yes, they are targeting respected sites. All the drive-by download attempts were while I was visiting major news sites.
Tonight, I got a different ad server trying it from another trusted site, so--- it happens. I use Opera, it won't start a download without asking first, so I cancelled, then blocked the ad server address the attempt came from.
