I'm considering only doing a top end, valves injectors, heui, etc still have good power but my heui pump is getting noisy and I have had a few injector cups and sleeves leak over the last year, just trying to weigh the options

When I used to rebuild engines it was always a rule of thumb to do the whole engine. New strong top end just puts more pressure on an old weak bottom end. Eventually causing more problems. Just sayin.

I would say 18 to 20 is a starting price depending on what you are doing and mileage. I would say you could get close to 30 if really replacing items like pistons, arms, bearings, and crank.
Most depending on mileage and last replacement will recommend water pump, turbo, compressor, starter, alternator, heui pump, just to name a few. It is a long list depending on what you are wanting.

Everything except consumable parts, IE ( starter, alt., AC, etc. ).

New head, sleeves, liners, pistons, cam, all bearings, turbo kit, fuel and oil pump, injectors, all other misc. parts and supplies and fluids and filters and a dyno.

This is was done on my other truck and the previous owners had it done, so I'm going by the bill on the parts. As far as I can remember it was done in a couple of weeks.

WOW, that sounds a bit pricy for a in-frame. Would have thought a price like that would have been them pulling the motor. Guess I better save a little harder for the day I have to get it done. Mine just turned 817,000, but think I can get a million out of it.

Does seem awful expensive for a C9 platinum inframe - in fact it is about the exact same price for a platinum inframe on a C15 & C16!

I did a little pricing the other day from a Cat dealer in Longview, TX, blocks only as I am strongly considering doing the labor in my shop w/ the help of a friend who does this type thing for a large fleet. Benefits; complete control and I like the idea of the factory reman block rather then a tech doing an inframe, not to mention the time savings;

2006 Cat Reman C9
long block $11,143.10 after good core return (plus $5742 with no core) part #10R9964
short block (no head) $8,831.44 plus $5095.54 pt #10R9871

Parts man said usually the core is paid for then returned later for credit so the installer can have both blocks side by side to better do the exchange. These blocks do not include the "fuel delivery system" (HUEI pump and injectors) so consider that expense unless you want to re-use your perfectly good used ones, along with the air brake pump and all the other attached components.

If you use your used ones, you can probably kiss the Cat warranty (three years on these parts) good-bye, but I am not a proponent of warranties anyway, especially from Cat.

Granted 15's are a bigger engine but the parts costs between the two aren't that far off

This engine rebuild was purchased with the extra year of warranty a plus of about 700 bucks. So, with the parts price listed by the previous poster plus labor it's not to far out !!!!
