Identity thieves can lurk at Wi-Fi spots

Hey Chaz-

I noticed a lot of emails from pay pal asking for info...I didn't reply. Thanks for posting this. We spent a lot of time in Texas...using WiFi at the Flying J in Dallas area...and at the Pilot in Laredo.

On a similar note, about 6 months ago I got an email saying that I had "pictures". I use aol...and it looked official...I opened it. Couldn't get any pictures--Next day, my aol account is locked....I was scammed. My email address had sent out 1000's of porn email invitations and drug company invitations. Nice huh? Aol was cool about it as I have had my account for years but it could have been much worse. Frankly, I was more embarrassed than anything else that I had gotten scammed...I have been known to preach to my family members about firewalls and NOT opening any questionable mail. I will be eating crow for a while. LOL

Yeah, it's amazing the way your words can come back to haunt you. I've had that happen with various things over the years...
Hate it! :p

These things seem to be running in spurts, I recently received 3 emails complete with bank logos, Yahoo! logos, and professional HTML asking me to click on a link to verify my bank card information.

The 'phoney' indicators were the text usually doesn't have the plurals right, the wording is awkward, and there was a little break in the keywords to get past the spam filters.

FYI- you can forward the spam/offenders to your hosts for action. Click on 'full headers', and forward to the spamdesk, or abuse desk at the mail host. For Yahoo it's [email protected]; for Juno it's [email protected]. They usually at least try to track the emails and work with the other hosts to clear up the problem.

If you use paypal or ebay alot, you can go to the ebay website and download their toolbar. You know that ebay owns paypal now.Keeping all their money to themselves.lol----anyways,with the ebay toolbar, there is an account guard. Any time that you are on a legitimate ebay or paypal site, the light will turn green. Also,if you are on a legitimate paypal site, the url will start with https instead of http If you think it is a bad address that you get in your email-forward it to [email protected] or [email protected]---
I'm sure they are using some sort of keylogging.
