As if we dont have enough to deal with, economy, fuel, low rates, repairs.......DOT is as you know going to impose "certain" requirements on our bodies.

What does this really mean? What is the criteria being used?
What can we expect?

Here is an interview with the head Doctor responsible for a lot of input.
Now, while this isnt in stone, the implications are clear, make your own decision on the matter.

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine. That means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! ..... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the
middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans ! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways
Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. (It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.)

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION
Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you. :D

Q. I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
If so, then why do so many people, including doctors, drop dead WHILE jogging/running?

Lifting weights is superior to cardio.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

Nature's foods don't kill us; man's food does. Nature's cow is fed on grass, not corn, wheat, and soy. Nature's chickens are omnivores (they eat bugs and pick at carcasses), not soy fed vegetarians. Nature's animals are free range, not from a factory.

The fruits and vegetables you consume should be organic. Insects are smart enough to stay away from the pesticides/insecticides, but not you?

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

Only if you're drinking more than one to two drinks in a day. Moderate drinking is superior to abstaining, while, excessive drinking is inferior to moderating.

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

An autopsy is required to determine your exact body fat percentage. All other methods are estimates; some better than others.

Body fat percent is just a number; a statistic. It will do less for you than a good, honest look in the mirror.

Q. What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?

An irregular exercise program is superior to a regular exercise program. The body adapts to routine. Adaptation kills progress.

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
Oxidized fats are not good for you. Most vegetables aren't inherently fatty by nature. Animals are. If you're going to cook with fat, the best fat would be from a naturally fed, free range animal; butter or lard. Not processed corn and/or soy oils, or other vegetable fats.

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around themiddle?
Nutrition is the key to great abs. Exercise plays a much less significant role.

Great abs are made in the kitchen.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

Dark chocolate (at least 85% pure...it'll say on the label) is one of the best foods you can eat. It's full of antioxidant's and good fats.

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

Swimming offers the least resistance of any exercise. It is resistance that challenges the body and forces change the best.

For those with injuries, though, swimming is a good alternative to doing nothing.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

Getting in shape has very little to do with your expediting lifestyle. You don't need to be in shape to sit behind a wheel for 11 hours at a time, then turn around and sleep in a closet. In fact, the sedentary lifestyle required to be an expediter is in direct opposition to the lifestyle required to be in shape. So, no, getting shape is NOT important to your lifestyle; it can only interfere with it.

Getting in shape, though, is important to your longevity.

Longevity vs. Lifestyle.

:D I'm wondering if there is any exercise value in laughter?
Cause, I'm busting a gut right now.:D

If laughing, alone, could bust a gut, then, "fat and happy" would be an oxymoron.

Happiness doesn't necessarily equal healthiness, but, healthiness does require happiness.

Keep on laughing.

Most game animals have very little, if any, fat marbled into the meat as cow does. They carry their fat on top of the meat and it is very easily removed. Most wild game, like duck, venison and rabbit are often too lean to cook without drying it out and some fat has too be added. Eating venison can reduce the levels of "bad choletoral" and raise the good. Same with most wild game. The pursuit of that game can also be VERY good exercise as well!!!

You missed a key factor . Japanese , Mexicans , Germans , and Italians don't have American dispatchers .

My dad is 87 and still very active. He also has smoked and drank whiskey since he was a young teen. He recently was told by a new doctor that he should quit both of these unhealthy habits. He told the doctor that he was the fourth doctor to tell him that. The doctor asked "So what happened?" Dad replied "They all died so you be careful young fella."

When you take your DOT physical, why does the doc have you run in place for several minutes? Run in place for a physical for a job that requires you to sit on your butt for many hours at a time? Why don't they have you sit in a chair for five minutes and then take your pulse?

Next time a doctor tells you to do that ask him to show you on the form where it is required . It isn't . I've never done it for a DOT physical .
