I believe you have made a wise decision for your current situation. It is of small cost to remove or replace it. You can always hang on to it if it is needed at a later date. If you do special services or white glove at some point it may or may not have a value.

This may be a little late(the gate may already be in the shed) but, when I was starting out and leased to one of the carriers I gave them every reason possible to put freight on my truck. A lift gate is simply, another reason. If you are concerned about loosing some automotive freight consider fabricating a removable ICC bar to
the rear of your truck.
