Canada Crossing fee into US

Got a fax at the office tonight stating that the fee to cross the border INTO the US was going to increase June 1st. The fee is going from $5.00 to $10.75!

As much as the CBP didn't like taking anything other then a $5.00 bill, what are they going to do now?

Does anyone know what that money is used for? Seems like an extremely steep increase.

The fee split was $5.00 for customs processing and $5.25 for the FDA. Customs was getting burned they say doing FDA clearances and shipping costs of siezed materials.
Example: When they confiscated my 3 sticks of beef jerky they are suppose to ship it to the FDA and do all the paperwork.

Now it's $5.50 for customs.

Anyone with a transponder won't have to pay the difference till renewal time. No tranponder you pay full price.
