I NEED ADVICE:

Canada - is it best to spend US money, convert to Canadian or use credit cards?

Somebody said that Verizon will kill me getting calls & texts while there?

Once you go in, how common is it to get a quick load back out??

Finally, for OVM, I don't speak Canadian, will they understand me and I them?? Eh!

Unlike the US most Canadian retailers taken in American money. McDonald's Wendy's nearly all fast food chains take American money
Best to convert some money at the duty-free cheaper ...turn your phone off Verizon will rape you or better yet just put it in airplane mode. There is a high degree of probability you will be coming out of their empty

I have some OVM decoder rings. ONLY ONE PROBLEM. I can't keep it up dated as OVM changes his codes daily. Revising ver. 10.901 today, but will change soon to ver 11.06. I'm working on a program now that will translate on the go. That will be cool.

When I went to Toronto 2 years ago for 10 days vacation we upgraded to an international plan for for I think 30 bucks, with Verizon. It saved us big bucks, just remember to down grade when you get back,

Use credit cards they will give you the best exchange rate. That's what I use. Always carry some cash especially for tolls crossing the bridge.
I have Verizon and it costs me about $10 more a month with 1000 min. of talk time and texting plus some bandwith for wifi but you will use it up fast. Make sure those who call you call from a landline as they will get killed with charges if they use a cell phone with no Canadian coverage.

It's the luck of the draw to get a load back out. A lot of it depends who your carrier is. Mine is about 50/50 to get a load back out.

Go to the Fifth Wheel truck stop in Milton Ontario. That is where I used to hang out waiting for loads out of Canada. I've been loaded out of there a few times. Your phone is going to cost you a fortune. You can get around some of that by using a wifi hotspot to use your computer and keep your phone on specifically for load offers. Remember everything up there is more expensive. I once bought a coke, a bag of tater chips, and a pack of smokes for almost 20 bucks back in 2006. You also want to have your fuel tanks topped off before you cross the border. Fuel is expensive in Canada. Be sure that you have no pornography or pornographic images on your laptop, and make sure your meds, if you have them, have your name on them. Also don't bring in any weapons! That is a big no-no. Other than that, you will really enjoy Canada. It is so safe over there. Crossing the Ambassador bridge and riding into Windsor is like going from the tenth level of hell right through the gates of paradise! It's like night and day! Good luck!
