    Nervous newbie

You know, I've been to places that "don't allow pets". I have a small dog that could fit in a hoodie pocket. She is super well-behaved and stays in the passenger seat of my van at all times while I'm loading(I got her a month before starting expediting, so she's been raised on the road). I've...

    Nervous newbie

Sometimes a new truck might be the answer, but living this life you're going to run into issues with trucks. And when it rains, it pours. Even with a brand new truck. My company has a brand new truck with 4000 miles on it that I had to send back to the dealer this past week to replace a thousand...

    Cargo Van paper work

It's possible to be a successful owner-operator using a cargo van, and even to find your own loads. However, those who know how to do so are unlikely to be forthcoming with the information because it's a VERY competitive market due to low barriers to entry. You're far more likely to be...

Cargo Van 1st time in Laredo

If it's not too hot, I'll stay at the Pilot. In the summer time, I like to stay at the extended stay inn on the north side of Laredo. Never had any problems at either place. The extended stay is nice because it has a full kitchen so if you end up being there a couple days you can save money on...

Did you leave a good paying job to get into this business?

I left a good job as the general manager of a small but very successful business, where the owner was definitely overpaying me and giving me basically full run of the place. I did a good job over several years of working there and increased my pay by almost double from when I first started...

Is Expediting a Business or a Lifestyle?

Haha, that's so funny but mostly true. Despite being in expediting for years now, I wouldn't be able to stand doing your test, though. Having to focus on road conditions and driving, while listening to talk radio or chatting on the phone(hands free!) makes sitting for 9-12 hours at a time...

All Things Expedited... Anyone have any experience with this company?

Because I've been on the bidding/dispatching side of things. I know how the bidding process works, and I know there is no reporting to the shipper of where my trucks are at in the majority of small/multi-carriers. The large carriers have internal systems that show where all their trucks are via...

All Things Expedited... Anyone have any experience with this company?

EDIT: You know what, I'm sorry. I appologize. You've been doing this a long time, and so I'm sure you're very confident in what you "know". My information is unlikely to change that for you, so you're right, we'll just have to agree to disagree. Have a great day, be safe, and I wish you all the...

All Things Expedited... Anyone have any experience with this company?

There is no disagree. Do you bid on loads? The shipper generally posts the load, rather than carriers posting the truck. As a dispatcher & O/O who has managed 2 different carriers, I bid loads all the time, and I've never posted a truck's location. I see a load where I have a truck available...

All Things Expedited... Anyone have any experience with this company?

But that's the point. Shipper doesn't see 2 units where I'm at because they're not reporting their capacity to the shipper. And the second carrier isn't even putting a bid on it without your sayso, so that entire scenario is a work of fiction. It's a story made up by exclusive carriers that...

All Things Expedited... Anyone have any experience with this company?

I just explained this 2 posts ago. It's because they don't place a bid unless you tell them you want the load FIRST. So if a second carrier called you on the same bid, you'd just say no. Or, if both carriers pay a flat rate, you can tell them both yes and it won't effect what you earn anyhow...

All Things Expedited... Anyone have any experience with this company?

Sure, which is why I specifically said I know nothing about that particular company, and that it sounds like they're super shady. But that doesn't condemn the entire multi-carrier business model. And the inflated capacity doesn't effect anything when those companies aren't reporting their...

All Things Expedited... Anyone have any experience with this company?

The multi-carrier model isn't nearly as bad as you may have been led to believe. The primary distributors of the idea "multi-carriers hurt the business" are the exclusive carriers. By making you think multi-carrier is evil, it makes it easier for them to maintain their exclusivity with their...

How often are loads from Ohio to Texas offered?

I actually didn't ask that question specifically because I was more familiar with the answer to that already, based on research I had done before I started the thread. But yes, I understand knowing both is important. But knowing how often I could expect to get the chance to go to Texas from Ohio...

    Choice in type of pay?

It's a shame they don't accept cargo van O/O's, or so I've heard. Wouldn't know for certain though. I left their recruiter a message and never got a call back.

How often are loads from Ohio to Texas offered?

But how often are runs from Ohio to Texas offered? Is it something that you can pretty consistently get? Like every week?

    Choice in type of pay?

Sounds like a good problem to have. :D

How often are loads from Ohio to Texas offered?

Regarding Cargo Vans, I've heard a lot of people talk about getting stuck in Texas for days at a time. How often are there loads available from Ohio to Texas? Do people turn them down often because of the possibility of getting stuck?

Questions from a Newbie Cargo Van O/O

Anyone have any experience with Tri State and Prestige, and able to tell me which would be the better choice to start with?

Questions from a Newbie Cargo Van O/O

So, out of curiousity, how'd I do with my speculation on the questions about going to Texas and going West? Was I right? Partially right? Completely wrong?
