Automated Transmission Workshop

Two chances to attend the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) with both workshops starting at 12:30 on Friday and the other on Saturday in the Stoops booth using Bob & Linda Caffee's truck. Team Run Smart Pro's Henry Albert along with Bob & Linda Caffee will answer questions about the transmission.

The DT12 transmission has been compared to driving a road coarse racecar as you can put the car or truck in drive and off the vehicle goes or there are ways to finesse the transmission and really glide down the road.

Benefits of the DT12 Transmission include:

Lightweight with an aluminum housing
Optional Direct Drive to help improve fuel efficiency
eCoast - allows the engine to idle when not needed again increasing fuel efficiency
Skip Shift - When under light load the transmission will skip any gear not needed
Along with many other benefits but these are my favorites.

There are many options with the DT12 including the cruise control band switch or CC Band Switch. This switch works with the DT12 to control how much speed you can gain while the engine is coasting. There are three positions plus or negative 3 mph, plus or negative 7 mph, or unlimited speed. This switch can be used to control the speed of the truck when going down hills, as it will control how much the exhaust brake will work.

One option that can come in handy is the hill start aid. When stopped on a grade of 6% or more or when backing into a steep dock the hill stop aid will not allow the truck to roll forward or if stopped on a down grade will not allow the truck to roll forward when the foot is off of the brake.

Creep mode is also handy to feather out way into a dock. After stopping let off of the brake and the truck will slowly move forward or backward depending on what gear is selected.

Another nice addition is that if we forget to put the transmission into neutral when stopped as soon as we pull the parking brake the transmission will go into neutral. The shifter will still have to be manually moved to the neutral position to start the truck.

See you at the workshop Friday and Saturday, 12:30 in the Stoops Freightliner Booth Expedite Expo 2015.
