No Truck Parking

These three words are becoming more common in communities around the country.  Why is that?  It could be a lot of different reasons.  Let’s maybe list a few of them.

  1. Noise – Idle of truck engine, running of auxiliary power unit (APU), running of reefer unit.
  2. Trash - dumping trash in improper locations, doing trailer cleanout where not allowed.
  3. Drops – Dropping a trailer where it does not belong.

The list could go on and on and on.  We as drivers need to be good steward of the places we go.  That means respect the community you are in and think of those who live in the community.

For those communities that have placed no truck parking we as drivers were not invisible.  Meaning we got noticed doing things that the residents did not like.  Those residents went to the local elected officials and complained.  We as truck drivers need to be invisible and not put targets on backs.

Here is a list of those communities we could find that have banned truck parking:

  • Minneapolis, MN
  • St. Paul, MN
  • West Oakland, CA
  • Loxahatchee and The Acreage, FL
  • College Station, TX

This is just to name a few that have banned truck parking.  Some of the above have banned truck owners parking on their own property.

So, what does this mean?  Well, you need to plan ahead for parking.  Which you should be doing all the time.  Look for legal parking close to your destination.  Use all of the options available to you.  Even check with the shipper or receiver to see if they allow parking onsite.  There is also paid truck parking locations now coming available.  One of the places you can look for this is the Truck Parking Club Truck Parking Club website and other like this site and app.

Comments we have read are saying boycott or blockade that community.  That is not the answer to the problem.  It is on us as drivers to run invisible do not draw undo attention to yourself and be respectful of those in the communities you are pickup and delivering to.

Modified "The Invisible Man" movie title 1933.
