WASHINGTON — The average on-highway price of a gallon of diesel dropped another 5.5 cents to $2.668 for the week ending August 3, according to the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy.

Prices in the last few weeks have been reflective of those of the summer of 2009 when the price dipped to $2.50 at one point.

Since the week of June 8, 2015, when the price was $2.904, the price has dropped 24.7 cents a gallon, including 15.2 cents a gallon during the past three weeks alone.

The price of August 3 is $1.185 lower than the comparable week last year.

Every region of the country showed a decline led by a 7.5 cent drop along the Gulf Coast and a 5.8 cent decline in the Midwest.
