    No Love at Loves Travel

Frankly, I wish Love's had a larger foot-print. I've never had a problem at any of their locations. I find their facilities generally cleaner, fuel a bit cheaper, and appreciate their more driver friendly rewards / shower program. Unlike T/A, Petro, Pilot, FJ, you don't see reserved parking...

    Hows cargo van freight

Insurance costs are directly related to your business / operational set-up. Fairly inexpensive if your leased on to a carrier, significant over-head if your running under your own authority.

"comfort level" of straight truck vs van?

Sure, it happens on occasion. A yank on the air horn normally rectifies this situation

"comfort level" of straight truck vs van?

I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect a relaxed driving experience with any type of expediting, that said, if you've driven TT, I believe you will adapt to a straight fairly quickly. You do need to get accustomed to maneuvering a 40 ft. piece of equipment that doesn't 'bend' and also be very...

    Just Starting

Just to clarify my earlier post. It was not my intention to disparage van drivers, rather, I was attempting to illustrate that there is simply not enough revenue available in this segment of the market for an owner to take a 40% cut and leave anything meaningful for a driver.

    Just Starting

To the original OP, answer this question for yourself. "What kind of person would be willing to live in a crappy old van, drive said vehicle whenever and wherever dispatch deems it suitable, pay for the fuel, sleep on an air-mattress, eat lousy food when they could afford to ... Never knowing...

    Maximum axle weights

Very few states allow more than 20,000 lbs on a rear single axle, doesn't matter if it's rated higher. Your options are shed weight or add another axle.

    Cost Of Equipment Funding

You're not likely to find a true lease arrangement option for an expediter through any commercial enterprise. 'possibly' a private individual would do a lease-purchase or partial financing deal on a used piece of equipment they are motivated to unload. For initial business plan purposes, you...

    Panther vs Fedex Expedite

It's pretty simple ... Just subscribe to Sylectus and you can participate in the bidding war for everyone's scraps

    Panther vs Fedex Expedite

In what context ? Leasing on equipment / drivers with one of the major players vs. looking for partner (brokered/excess freight) carrier relationships are completely different scenarios

    Panther vs Fedex Expedite

"Partners" typically don't get access to the best loads from any of the expedite carriers ... Unless capacity is tight ... Which it isn't.

How long till this starts hitting expedited carriers?

I see nothing wrong with having both electronic and paper logs as long as the RODS match ( rounding accepted on paper version of course ). Assuming the e-log mandate does in fact go into effect, I will absolutely continue to run a paper log as well. Doesn't mean I'm going to show it to a DOT...
