Walkin in Memphis!

I had a long, profitable day today. I left home a little before 7am to pick up a load in Kenton, OH, going to Memphis, TN.   Over 600 miles loaded, and a nice heavy 1000 lb load, which made for smooth riding.   There was a small delay getting the freight, as the shipper apparently didn’t know we were coming.   They had sold it to a customer, who arranged for us to pick it up, and take it to yet another final customer. Problem was, they hadn’t told the shipper who would be coming, and hadn’t told us that the final delivery address was in Mexico. Our address was actually another carrier who would take it into Mexico, as we don’t go there yet.   Once it was straightened out, they found the freight, and got me loaded quickly.

The load was just over 1000lb and made my van ride well, so it was nice just pointing it down the road and having a nice ride. My route took me thru Ohio, Kentucky, and of course into Tennessee.     I drove by Nashville, which is a very beautiful city…one of my favorites to see at night, besides Columbus.   The scenery is really starting to get beautiful. We still have lots of greens, but I’m just starting to see touches of yellow and orange leaves around some places.   The pumpkins and gourds are starting to show up at roadside stands, and in decorations… and the stores are already selling fall decorations, and I even saw Halloween decorations in a store!   Jumping the gun a bit, but oh well.

My delivery in Memphis ended up being just a couple miles from Graceland…Elvis’ home of course.   After 33 years, people still throng there, and take tours.   They even have one of his planes across the street that you can tour.   I’m sure, now with the loss of Michael Jackson, they will do the same thing to Neverland.   30 years from now, people will probably still be paying to see where he lived, how he lived, what he really had in there… just a little peek into his live… even if he’s gone.   Funny how we get obsessed with celebrities… even controversial ones… we follow their stories, their ups and downs, what they wear, who they date… and many people get a perverse pleasure it seems when one of ‘them’ screws up.   Perhaps we think if ‘they’ can screw up with all they have, maybe I’m not so bad.

Well, right now, I’m in the parking lot of a Flying J about 20 miles from Memphis.   I had a restful night, (except about 3 am when I discovered I was parked right next to the automatic sprinklers.. LOL.. got woken up by the sound of water beating on the side of my van!)… I have the windows down, the fan on, and just relaxing.   Hopefully I’ll get a run out of here soon.
