Couple short runs

Yesterday was a nice day, not for the huge amount of money I made, but just getting to work, and spend some time with my wife at the same time!  I had a short run to West Virginia, then headed back home.. on the way back home, I received an offer for another run picking up in West Virginia, and heading up just West of Dayton, OH. Unfortunately, I was already almost home by the time I accepted it. However, that worked out good, because my wife's work schedule had changed, and I was able to swing by the house, pick her up, and she went with me back down to WV to pick up the run.  That's one good thing about FedEx, they do have an authorized passenger program, where you can buy passenger insurance. Tho I run single, it's nice every now and then to have her ride with me, so she can see what I do, instead of just hearing about it.

Anyway, we made an evening out of it... stopped for dinner (the run had a couple extra hours before pickup)... and spent a nice few hours together.  After we delivered, it turned out there was no one in Columbus, so I headed home. I've now been offered and accepted another short run today in Ohio, delivering down by Cincinnati. Once again, since so close I'm running back home.

I've had some comments about the way I go home a lot. By no means do I want people to think this is normal in expediting! I am in a unique situation... my van is older, paid for, and I live smack dab in the middle of FedEx freight lanes in the Columbus area.   A LOT of freight criss-crosses my home Express Center, so I get home more than the average driver. Also, since my van is paid for, and I get over 20 mpg, sometimes it is cheaper for me to deadhead home than to idle overnight, plus buy a meal or two.  So, I pack a cooler with drinks and snacks, and spend the fuel money heading home, as long as I can do it safely.  Someone with a big payment, or living outside of the freight lanes should NOT expect to go home as much as I do.  Many expediters stay out for 2 weeks, to even months before going home. I don't want people to think my way of running is average!!!

I am ONLY able to run the way I do because I am a VAN driver with a paid for vehicle and live where I do! MOST DO NOT RUN THIS WAY!!
