    A couple of years ago, my health started going downhill. I thought part of it was because of my age, part due to having been driving so long that I was just wore out. I am one of those people that go to the doctor when I am sick enough, so had been seeing a lot of my doctor. Last year I ended up in the hospital twice, in January for double pneumonia, again in October because I put on so much water weight that I could not breathe. While there, it was found that my gall bladder was ”˜going bad’ in the doctor’s words but no rush to deal with it they said. I took off 60 pounds of water weight in three weeks, could breathe again, and returned to work.

    George Washington is credited with confessing to chopping down a cherry tree when he was a child. While historians cannot verify that story, the concept of taking responsibility for one’s actions is a valid one. If one does something wrong or messes up, it is always better to admit to it than to lie about it.

    Few studies have been done relating to drivers and cancer. Skin and lung cancers are two of them; the only other one found was on prostate cancer. Drivers are exposed to all sorts of contaminants while driving, in old warehouses containing asbestos across the country and have one side of the body usually exposed for full shifts in the sun.

    The little green book is filled with the regulations governing us and while the major ones might have been addressed in orientation or school, the book is filled with little known regulations that can get you in trouble. Ignorance of a trucking regulation will not save you if you are inspected by law enforcement.

    Avoiding sexual harassment takes people treating others in the workplace with respect no matter the gender. Also, it takes understanding what sexual harassment is in context with the job and being able to define the difference between someone being attracted to you or using their position to harass you. Document the harassment if it occurs and do report it if necessary, it will make the workplace better for everyone.
