T&K Nationwide Trucking: Growth, Trust, and Timeliness
Growth, and growth at a reasonably fast rate, seems to be a hallmark of success in the expedited trucking industry. It should come as no surprise, then, that we're profiling another company that's experienced the whirlwind that is rapid growth. New Lenox, Illinois's T&K Nationwide Trucking opened for business in 2004 with two trucks and a plan. Cut to 2010. Now they run 150 trucks, work out of two buildings (with a soon-to-be third), and boast seven employees.
Carrier Profile: Metro Parcel & Freight
Since 1988, Birmingham, Michigan's Metro Parcel & Freight has been steadily growing. Just over 20 years ago, the company's President, Kurt Prock started the company as its owner and principal employee and, "It expanded to several other drivers locally in the Detroit area, and then it expanded to over-the-road loads, where it is now," says Mike Webster, the firm's Safety & Recruitment officer. While the company's certainly proud of this growth, it's not something that they use as a primary measurement of their success--it's more of a result of their success than anything else.

Moving a Company Forward
When we put an owner-operator on with our fleet, we expect it to be a long term relationship. Because we "hire" people for the long-term, we don't have turn over and we're very proud of that. If you don't care about your people, you shouldn't be in this industry. If you've got a guy in a truck in Minnesota freezing like an ice cube or in Louisiana cooking like a piece of bacon, you need to move them. I'm not going to have a truck just sitting where we don't have freight."
