Metro Express America allows you to haul for other carriers and you do not need your own authority. Have a blessed day!

Straight truck or Cargo van?
Just out of curiosity, what difference could that possibly make? Are there carriers that allow straight trucks, but not cargo vans, to run for other companies, and visa versa?

Just so we know, how many of these small companies are paying full settlement at the end of each week? Or are they taking 30-45 days or longer to pay full settlements??

Now once you have a cash flow going, that might nit be an issue...but for some it certainly could be...Seems to me that alot of smaller companies wouldn't have the cash flow to pay until they were paid in full themselves....

The difference in my opinion for ST you have to have your own authority to drive for the smaller company/broker. For cargo van is enough to have a cargo and liability insurance. You don't need DOT. So for vans are more easier. But I may be wrong...

I know of a few that will not allow Straights, only CV's sprinter, box, etc.... Only vehicles under 10,000gvw. They do not want to monitor, record, report (audit) vechicles that are over the 10,000gvw mark.

That's where factoring companies come in. The only way a small carrier can pay drivers in something resembling a timely manner.

Ok, I undetstand the use of factoring services...So is the amount that is paid to the factoring company taken out before the O/O / driver is quoted their rate?

Factoring companies are one way for smaller companies to pay their drivers in a timely manner. Some smaller companies that I have done busines with had a secure line of montly credit based on their accounts payable. The bankset up a revolving line of available business credit based on the previous months invoices. This allowed them to pay everyone in a timely manner without having to pay factoring fees. There is nothing wrong with using a factoring company while one is in the process of trying to build up working capital and cash flow.

Any companies should allow you to drive for others . If you have your own cargo and liability insurance. Specially this days when a lot of drivers waiting for a load sometimes days in cold weather. Do you think the companies who not allowed to drive for an other carrier cares about what you eat or how much money you send home to your family? I understand if they are busy and they need your unit ,but this is not the situation here. I'm talking about cargo-vans.

I totally understand a small businesses need for and use of factoring services...the selling of invoices can sometimes mean the diifference between being in business and not. All did was ask the question so that those considering going with a smaller carrier would know what their rates might be figured on....And even then, if a O/O / driver running for a small company is fine with the rate qouted, I guess how it is figured makes no difference. But....with people biotching about low rates, its something to considered...at least I think so, even if at this time it really has no affect on me personally....

If you do your due diligence, you can get amazing factoring rates. We have been with the same factoring company for 3 yrs and pay 1.25% (non-recourse). That 1.25% does not effect our drivers pay at all, it effects only monetarily to the company. Lastly, that small percent is not driving our rates down, only allowing us to grow. Have a blessed day.
